Useful Contacts

Dear all,

Attached is a list of current links and resources for the specific areas of Online Safety, Domestic Abuse, Mental Health, and Scamming – all of which are considered to be increasing or at heightened risk, during isolation.  There are a mixture of local, regional and national links here for you and your colleagues to make use of, and for you to forward / signpost service users to during isolation.   PLEASE DO SHARE WITH COLLEAGUES AS I RECEIVE A NUMBER OF REQUESTS FROM FRONT LINE WORKERS WANTING THINGS WE HAVE ALREADY SENT OUT.

Please find below updates from across the partnership for Safeguarding during COVID-19:

Developing Emotional Resilience and Wellbeing:  a practical guide for social workers (both children and adults)

(this guide is useful to any professional or volunteer working with children, adults or families)

During COVID-19 practitioners could be concerned about their lack of personal protective equipment putting service users at risks, as well as themselves and their families. There may also be difficulties managing work when colleagues are self-isolating or sick. The impact on vulnerable children and adults: domestic abuse, child maltreatment and mental health problems could be worsened by the crisis, and meeting the care and support needs of disabled and older people must be managed while adhering to government guidance on social distancing.  This guide looks at developing emotional resilience and wellbeing. It’s a comprehensive guide, based on what research says supports resilience in social workers and is full of information and ideas to use in your practice. If you are pushed for time and want to jump straight to techniques and tools to try, go to the final section: What can I do to enhance my resilience? (page 17).  Link to report here.

New Parents and Coronavirus

Although there is no research evidence on COVID-19 during pregnancy or for parents and carers of a baby or young child, The Lullaby Trust has put together some advice and guidance for both professionals and parents and carers.

These include FAQs designed to try to answer some questions parents and carers may have such as:

  • 'How do I self-isolate and keep my baby safe'
  • 'Should I bedshare if I am unwell?'
  • What do I do if my baby has a temperature?
  • Can I still breastfeed if I have coronavirus (COVID -19)?

Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards during COVID-19 New guidance - questions about this new guidance should be directed to lps.cop@dhsc.gov.uk.

Explaining Coronavirus to Children

For Children – this is a good guide for explaining coronavirus and why young people have to stay home:

 Keeping Children Safe in Education

The Government has announced that its consultation on “keeping children safe in education: proposed revisions 2020” which was due to close next month, has been suspended.

Social distancing and adults who may not have capacity:  Guidance for adults who are not adhering to social distancing who may not have capacity.

 Preventing exploitation of children

During the restrictions referrals to children’s services have fallen. To make sure support is there for those that need it there are a number of resources available to help prevent CSE/CSA (in this case I'm using acronyms to ensure your firewall doesn't prevent the bulletin's delivery).

 Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA)

The Office of the Public Guardian, in recognising the increase of need to check the validity and scope of LPAs have introduced a rapid check process (within 24 hours). Click here for Guidance for NHS and social care staff: check if a COVID-19 patient has an attorney or deputy.

Stay safe all, and thanks to you, your colleagues and support staff who are ensuring our residents in Calderdale are safe.
